Cornwall Carers Service (CCS) is a free information and support service, commissioned by Cornwall Council, to provide support for informal and unpaid Carers.
Many people do not recognise themselves as Carers, but they give up their time and energy to help someone who may not otherwise be able to manage the tasks most of us manage as a matter of routine. The Carer may be someone looking after a friend or neighbour, perhaps helping with a weekly shop or a husband or wife looking after their partner who needs more hands on help in order to manage day to day activities.
Anybody can refer themselves to the service by calling the helpline which is run by Age UK on 01872 266383. A Carer Support worker will then contact them to arrange an appointment to visit at a time and venue best suited to the Carer.
They will work with them to ensure that they are getting everything that they and their cared for are entitled to, for example disability benefits like Attendance Allowance or a Blue Badge. They can offer help with form filling, signpost to other agencies or offer community drop in's, whatever is needed for each individual situation wherever possible.
Other partners include;
Age UK Cornwall bringing expertise in running help lines, advocacy and support services
Disability Cornwall bringing expertise in supporting all people disadvantaged through disability
Amongst the partnership they have a dedicated Forum and Events Co-ordinator and specialist support workers including, learning disabilities, autism, young adult carers, dementia and Black Minority Ethnic.
We hope you find their website www.cornwallcarers.org.uk useful and they will be working hard to ensure it is a valuable and meaningful resource for Carers across Cornwall.
If you cannot find the information you need on this site please feel free to ring the helpline;
