Dr Richard D G James MB BS (St Thomas') 1980, FRCS
MRCGP DCH DRCOG

I was born in Cardiff in 1957, and grew up in
the beautiful Gower Peninsular where I developed my love of the sea and water sports.
After a gap year travelling in New Zealand, Australia and Canada I started my
studies at St Thomas' Hospital in London. I subsequently trained in Surgery
through a range of attachments in specialties including Orthopaedics,
Neurosurgery, Urology, Breast surgery, Obs & Gynae and General surgery. I
then moved to Cornwall spending a year in Paediatrics at Treliske before a
registrar year at the Penryn Practice. I joined The Health Centre in 1990,
on Dr Deeble's retirement.
I am a firm believer in the principles of
British Family Medicine. My professional interests include dermatological
surgery, ultrasound imaging, and the use of computers in medicine, and I am keen
to see technology applied appropriately to General Practice. I enjoy most water sports,
especially surfing, and am proud to be Honorary Medical Advisor to the Falmouth
RNLI.
My wife Allyson left her job as a Ward Sister at St Bartholomew's
Hospital in London to come to Cornwall with me and has subsequently trained as a
Health Visitor, then after having our children Emily and Thomas, as a District
Nurse. She is now Associate Nurse Consultant and Stroke Care Coordinator for Central
Cornwall PCT Last updated
