I am Aldyth Hambly, Community Macmillan Nurse for Falmouth and
Penryn. The relief of pain and other symptoms, using drugs and other forms of treatment, is a key element in cancer care. Emotional support is also vital in helping people to cope with their illness, with the effects of treatment, or with any fears or worries they may have about the future. Because Macmillan Nurses are directly involved with a comparatively small number of patients, they have the time to give emotional support and to talk over such problems with patients and those close to them. In Cornwall, each of the community Macmillan Nurses works in a defined geographical area. He/She can offer help with: - physical problems ANYONE can refer to a Macmillan Nurse by telephoning the Macmillan Centre in Truro during normal office hours. The community Macmillan Nurses aim to contact anyone referred to them within two working days, when appropriate. CORNWALL MACMILLAN SERVICE I am contactable by telephoning 01872-354383 and asking for me by name, when I will be radio paged / bleeped. I also hold a "drop in" clinic at the Falmouth Health Centre on the first and third Monday of each month from 10.00a.m. - 1.00 p.m. Congratulations to Aldyth who has been awarded an international award for innovation in Palliative Care with the rest of the Falmouth team!
